Erasmus Accommodation in Madrid: Find Your Place for Your Exchange

Heading to Madrid for your Erasmus exchange? Finding accommodation that fits your university schedule and social life can make your experience much easier from day one. Whether you're staying for one semester or the full academic year, here's what to consider when looking for Erasmus accommodation in Madrid.

When Should You Start Looking for Erasmus Housing?

Madrid welcomes students from across Europe, and demand for accommodation increases around the beginning of university terms. If your exchange starts in September, begin researching options during the summer. For a spring semester, start looking before the winter intake. Once your university confirms your exchange dates, look for accommodation that covers orientation activities, classes, and exams.

Shared Housing and the Erasmus Experience

For many Erasmus students, sharing an apartment is part of the experience. Living with roommates can make it easier to meet people, practice Spanish, and settle into everyday life in Madrid. Before choosing a shared apartment, consider:
- Roommates: Would you prefer living with other international students or residents?
- Shared spaces: Check access to the kitchen, bathrooms, and common areas.
- House rules: Ask about guests, cleaning responsibilities, and quiet hours.
- Length of stay: Confirm that the room is available for your entire exchange.

The right environment should support both your studies and your social life.

Make the Most of Your Erasmus Stay in Madrid

Your Erasmus experience goes beyond the classroom. Madrid offers student communities, cultural activities, and opportunities to connect with people from different countries. Before arriving, check whether your host university has an international student office or an Erasmus Student Network (ESN) chapter.

These organizations can help you discover student activities and connect with other exchange students.
